De Uberaba a Brasília: comunidades vulneráveis e “territórios em reconversão” no roteiro da missão Cruls

The western area of Brazil receives attention for its peculiarities before the country's formation. The installation of the Brazilian capital in the centre of a large territory determined a specific area within that large interior here called Cruls' Mission Route. From the inauguration of Brasilia in 1960, untill today, the area has undergone huge changes, especially with regard to accesses, exploitation, uses and functions. Throughout the twentieth century, it arose of the occupation and modernization process, many environmental and social problems including those related to mining, hydropower installation; the development of agribusiness and livestock; and the process of the acceleration from to urbanization. The recovery of the historical process, in which the occupation of that area took place, constitutes the central axis of this work and the appointment of the main problems that require alternative solutions, with a view to sustainability of vulnerable communities amid the conversion of these territories process.
